10 YouTube Tips To Boost Your Web Presence

Everybody knows that YouTube is a great place to find an audience. It is the second most popular search engine on the planet, and the popularity of videos on the web is only on the rise. The competition in various niches is incredibly low, so the opportunities are certainly there to capitalize on.

That said, it's not necessarily obvious how to fully take advantage of YouTube, since the process is so much different from traditional blogging and SEO. Here are a few tips to get you on your way.

1. Description - Fill this with a brief summary of the video that should get people interested to view it. Don't make it too long or people won't bother. Don't stuff it with keywords, since this will cause most people to immediately assume you are spam, and it won't improve your ranking.

2. Description Backlink - Be sure to include a link back to your site from the description. Include html:// in the link or it won't even show up as a clickable link. This can send traffic to your site, and if the video gains authority of its own it will boost your site's search engine rank.

3. Call to Action - It's typically a bad idea to immediately ask the viewer to buy something, but ask the viewer to take an action such as visiting your site, subscribing, or joining your social media profiles. If you don't, very few of them will think to do anything else but watch another video on YouTube, created by somebody else.

4. Be Involved - Stay active in the YouTube community. Leave comments, rate videos, and send messages. This builds up your reputation and encourages involvement from your audience.

5. Make the Video Public - This is simple but it can be easy to miss. Be sure to check this option or people besides you won't actually be able to find the video.

6. Create a Video Transcript - This closed caption file is helpful for the hard of hearing. It is also incredibly useful for ranking, since Google has no way of interpreting the content of the video without it.

7. Choose the Right Thumbnail - Pick a video thumbnail that makes people interested enough to see what the video is about. Use YouTube Insight to identify the most popular parts of your video and adjust your thumbnails if necessary.

8. Use the YouTube Keyword Tool - Do as much keyword research as possible before wasting your time on something that may interest Google searchers, but not YouTuber viewers.

9. Optimize Your File Name - The file name is just as important as the title. Include your target keyword.

10. Network - Befriend some of the most influential YouTube presences in related niches.
